Day 1: Bucharest – Ploiesti – Cheia – Brasov (175 km)
Departure from Bucharest on the following route: Ploiesti – Cheia – Brasov. We stop at Cheia Monastery near the rocky slopes of Ciucas Mountains and admire the beautiful architecture of the monastery. The road to Brasov sneak between the mountains, the landscape is remarkable. Arrival in Brasov, lunch at “Panoramic” restaurant on the top of Tampa hill with an incredible view over the old roofs of the city. City tour: The Black Church, said to be the biggest catholic church between Istanbul and Wien, Council Square ,The White Tower Museum, “Schei” Gate , the fortress and String Street, one of the narrowest streets in the world! Accomodation and dinner in Brasov.

Day 2: Brasov – Rasnov – Codlea – Harman – Prejmer (100 km)

Breakfast. Today we descend into the dark mist of medieval times. In the morning, we are pointing this journey with visits at the Cristian saxon church and Rasnov citadel, one of the best preserved in the southern part of Transilvania. Lunch. Brief visits to Codlea, Harman and Prejmer fortified churches, the last one listed in the Unesco World Heritage List. Arrival in Brasov, spare time or optional visit to “Solomon’s Rocks” (by foot or by bus) , 1 hour easy stroll from Brasov Council Square. Overnight and dinner in Brasov.

Day 3: Brasov – Fagaras – Agnita – Apold – Sighisoara (160 km)

Breakfast. We are leaving Brasov and our road will occur through the heart of the saxon land. The Saxons lived together with romanians, gypsies and hungarians in southern Transilvania for almost 700 years, but most of them choose to live in Germany in the early 90’s. But their fantastic villages and fortified churches will last forever. Brief visits to some of the most interesting fortified churches (Cincu, Dealu Frumos, Agnita, Bradeni, Apold) in a fairy-tale rural landscape. Before that, we visit one of the most strange Romanian churches, the one in Sinca Veche, built directly in clay, no one knows how many hundreds or thousands years ago and Fagaras Citadell and Etnographic Museum. Overnight and dinner in the best preserved european medieval town, Sighisoara.

Day 4: Sighisoara
Breakfast. We spent the whole day in this gorgeous old town. You can feel the medieval music and atmosphere in every single rock and wall of the citadel. Main points of interest in the citadel: The clock tower, a 64m high tower built in the 13th century, Covered staircase, built in 1642 to ease the access of students to school on the hill, The old cemetery, Vlad the Impaler House, it’s said to be the house where Vlad was born, Church on the hill, The torture chamber and the old towers, originally there were 14 but nowadays one can find just nine. Leisure, overnight and dinner in Sighisoara.

Day 5: Sighisoara – Biertan – Medias – Slimnic – Sibiu (115 km)
Breakfast. Good bye Sighisoara! We’re heading for another well-known medieval town, Sibiu, European cultural capital in 2007. The history lesson continues with another exquisite examples of Saxon architecture, especially Biertan and Valea Viilor fortified churches, both of them Unesco monuments. Biertan is the biggest such church in Transilvania and the meeting point of the Saxon community worldwide. Lunch and old town visit in Medias, then an one hour stop at Slimnic citadel, 20 kilometers before Sibiu. Overnight and dinner, Sibiu.

Day 6: Sibiu
Breakfast. It’s a general opinion that Sibiu is the most beautiful Romanian town. City tour: The Grand Square with its impressive baroque Bruckental Museum (visit) , The small square, Liar’s bridge - the first bridge in Romania to have been cast in iron (1859), The Lutheran Cathedral with its massive 73.34 m high steeple, Passage of the stairs and the fortifications. After lunch we pay a visit to one of the biggest open-air museums in Europe, Astra Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization. Over 300 houses and other buildings are situated in the forest around two artificial lakes with over 10 km of walkways between them. Leisure, overnight and dinner, Sibiu.

Day 7: Sibiu – Cisnadie – Ramnicu Valcea – Pitesti – Bucuresti (280 km)

Breakfast. We have our last contact with the Saxon’s architecture and atmosphere visiting Cisnadie fortified church, few minutes away from Sibiu. One of the narrowest and spectacular roads in Romania, the Olt Valley, is waiting for us. Brief stops at Cozia Monastery, on the right side of Olt river and Cotmeana Monastery, in Arges country, in a nice hilly landscape. Our last stop is at Golesti Manor House, a beautiful complex of old houses and a 17th century church. Arrival in Bucharest late in the evening.
